Exploration

It begins with a combination of all that I do— this clip was a 30 second piece made for a short soundtrack competition, expressing the image shown below. My attempt at this competition combines piano, synth pads, impacts, and all kinds of self made FX to really immerse the listener and paint a picture.

This is what I’m all about.

Ambience

From late 2018 to Early 2020, I worked on this 75 minute ambient album that all flows together. Commissioned by the esteemed VGM label Brave Wave Productions, I was tasked with making a serene, percussion-less, and immersive series of soundscapes to destress, read, or even sleep to. As someone obsessed with piano and sound design, this was a dream come true. Combining foley, analog synthesizers, and experimental granular tools, I was able to take familiar timbres and blur them into organic environments that you can picture if you close your eyes. Something I love about the album is that if you really want to analyze the details, there is a whole lot to listen for, despite seeming so simple initially.

Spencer Wilson, working under the pseudonym Fourge, is a young American musician and producer and the newest member of the Brave Wave family. Our engineer, Marco Guardia, discovered his music on Spotify and was immediately taken by it. Spencer’s production skills, his keen musical sensibilities, and his virtuoso synth work left a big impression on our team. We signed him for two solo albums almost immediately.

We’re excited to bring you his debut album, Shifting Approximations of Solitude. It’s a hypnotizing, deliberate and intricate ambient album, unlike anything you’ve heard from Brave Wave before. Spencer fuses beautiful harmonies, lush pads, pianos and experimental sounds with a rich and layered production style. The result is a 75-minute ambient album that’s as pretty as it is atmospheric and mysterious.

Orchestral // Hope

A post apocalyptic land is before you. You know its dangerous, you know your chances aren’t great, you have no idea what is out there, but you have hope. Gripping on to that sliver of brightness, you take a step into the lands unknown before you.

Orchestral // Adrenaline

24 hours. A frozen tundra. A man with a will to live.

Our hero has his heart set on what he needs to do, but he needs to act fast.

Darkness // Time For Battle

A time lapse of the fall of man takes place before you. A war between man and machine plays out, technology rises up against humanity, and it’s not looking too great for the humans.

Darkness // A Fearful World

You’ve woken up in a setting like no other- Everything is foreign to you, unknown beings cry out in the distance, strange machines release pressure as you go by, you walk through the steamy fog with no clue of what lies ahead.

Proceed with caution.

Time Travel // Retro Chill

Transport yourself back to the 80s- warm synth pads, gritty bass, a punchy synth drum beat, don’t stress! You’ve got plenty of time ahead of you.

Time Travel // Retro Adrenaline

As was the norm in the days of synth-pop and the outrun genre… thick bass, brassy leads, warm pads, ethereal piano, punchy drums! You already know what year it is- It’s time for a neon car chase in your DeLorean!

Sound Design

This was a short test animation going through all of the elements, which I thought would be very fun to put audio to. All FX sounds were created by me, and almost all of the foley was self recorded, except for the giant water splash at the end.
